"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1, NKJV.
Although familiar, these are powerful words. God created everything we see and know in a mere seven days simply by speaking it into existence.
It's important that we know and believe that God created our world - that it didn't evolve or get here by chance. If God was powerful enough to create the universe with a spoken word, He is powerful enough to rescue us from sin and death. If God purposefully designed the world we live in, He is capable of caring and providing for us.
But more importantly, we need to know and believe that God is the Ultimate Creator because He tells us in His word that He is so. If we don't trust that He brought forth creation as He says He did, we have no basis for trusting in Him for our salvation, either. If we are going to trust Him for our salvation, we can also trust Him when He says He created the entire world with His spoken word!
Genesis also tells us that God created us - human beings - in His image. All of creation is a testimony of our Heavenly Father's plan and design, but we as humans are His crowning creation. We have the ability to think, speak, and reason - something given only to the human race, something that specifically reflects His image. Is that not amazing?
God is the creator of the universe. His intricate design is stamped on everything that has been created, from the tiniest cell to the biggest galaxy!
Today's assignment: My husband Jon had the incredible privilege of preaching for our church a couple of times this past summer. His second sermon was titled "The Creative Nature of God." In it, he shares some amazing insights into God's creative attribute. I definitely think it's worth listening to, and you can hear it online right here!
