What comes to mind when you hear the word faithful?  For me, I think of continued loyalty or supportive consistency.

Maybe your thoughts on faithfulness are similar to mine.  Or maybe you've not had a good example of faithfulness in your own life and you really don't know what true faithfulness is.

Whatever your experience with faithfulness - good or bad - God's Word tells us that God is faithful.  The online dictionary describes f0aithfulness as "constancy, loyalty, stability, and dependability."  And I would say that all of those words could be said of our Heavenly Father!

Even if those around us - our spouses, children, parents, friends - have not been faithful to us, God has.  Even in those moments when it may seem like He's forgotten us, His Word promises us that He deeply cares about us and is working all things for His good and our glory.  In times like those, we need to trust that when the Bible says God is faithful, He really is faithful whether or not we recognize His faithfulness.

There are so many good verses in the Bible about God's faithfulness:

  • Deuteronomy 7:9 - "Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments" (NKJV, emphasis added).
  • Psalm 36:5 - " Your mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds" (NKJV, emphasis added).
  • Psalm 89:5 - " And the heavens will praise Your wonders, O Lord; Your faithfulness also in the assembly of the saints" (NKJV, emphasis added).

There is no doubt after reading through the Scriptures that God proves Himself faithful time and time again.  We trust in a good and faithful God!

Today's assignment:  Go to BibleGateway.com or BlueLetterBible.org and do a word search for "faithful/faithfulness."  Write down all of the references to the faithfulness of the Lord.  Also write down at least one instance in your own life where you clearly witnessed God's faithfulness.  Keep this list handy for the next time you're tempted to question how trustworthy God is.
