When I look around today, purity seems all but forgotten. It certainly doesn't appear to be on anyone's achievement list. In fact, at times it feels like people actually scoff at purity. But purity is important to the Lord; it's one of His attributes.
Interestingly, when I began my research into God's purity, most of what came up were posts on His holiness. And while the two definitely overlap, I tend to think of these as separate attributes. While holiness indicates a sacredness or a setting apart, purity means something hasn't been mixed or adulterated with anything else. The two do go hand-in-hand, however, because by setting something apart as sacred, it keeps its purity.
Let's see what Scripture has to say about God's purity:
- 2 Samuel 22:27a - "With the pure, You will show Yourself pure..." (NKJV).
- Psalm 12:6 - "The words of the Lord are pure words, like silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times" (NKJV).
- Proverbs 30:5 - "Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him" (NKJV).
I love that we serve a pure God who hasn't been contaminated by sin. Many people in authority have been corrupted by bribes or greed, but not God. He always has our best in mind and hasn't been led astray by temptation. In a world where purity often isn't prioritized or appreciated, our Heavenly Father's pure nature stands as a welcome contrast!
Today's Assignment: As you dwell on God's purity today, what areas in your own life need to be purified? Are you content to let "little" sins remain instead of rooting them out? Is there an area where you've hesitated to let the Lord fully control? Pray about what the Lord would have you do with these areas that need His help!
